Couples Counseling
You don't have to be on the verge of ending things to benefit from couples counseling. Some couples come in after years of the same argument going nowhere. Some come after a breach of trust. Some come because they love each other but can't seem to find their way back to actually feeling it. Some come because life changed — a new baby, a loss, a major transition — and they've slowly drifted apart without meaning to.
Whatever brought you here, the goal is the same: to help both of you feel heard, understood, and equipped to build something that actually works.

What brings couples to therapy
There's no single story. Couples we work with are often dealing with:
-
Communication that keeps breaking down, even on small things
-
Emotional distance or a loss of connection and intimacy
-
A breach of trust, including infidelity or repeated patterns of hurt
-
Parenting disagreements or the strain of major life changes
-
Conflict that escalates quickly or gets avoided entirely
-
Wanting to strengthen a relationship that's good but could be better
How we work
Sessions create space for both partners to speak and be heard, often for the first time without the conversation collapsing. Our clinicians are trained to hold that space without taking sides, and to help each of you understand not just what the other person is saying, but why it lands the way it does.
Depending on what you're working through, our approach may draw from the Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Imago Relationship Therapy, attachment theory, and trauma-informed practices. In plain terms: we help you understand the patterns underneath the conflict, not just the content of the arguments. We also give you practical tools you can use between sessions, because what happens outside the therapy room matters as much as what happens inside it.
What to expect
Your first session will typically include both partners. Your clinician will ask about your relationship history, what's been most difficult, what you value most about your relationship, and what you're hoping therapy will help change. You won't be put on the spot or asked to resolve anything in the first session. That's not what it's for.
From there, sessions are structured around your specific goals. Some couples work on communication. Some work on rebuilding trust. Some are preparing for a major transition like marriage, parenthood, or a significant life change. The plan is built around what you actually need.
Most new clients are seen within the same week of reaching out.
Who this is a good fit for
We work with couples at all stages of a relationship — dating, engaged, married, partnered, or somewhere in between. We welcome couples of all identities, orientations, and relationship structures. Couples counseling at Embrace is affirming and does not rely on assumptions about what your relationship should look like.
This is a good fit if both partners are willing to show up and engage, even if one of you is more reluctant than the other. Reluctance is normal. It doesn't disqualify you.
Fees and insurance
We accept several major insurance plans. Private pay, out-of-network superbills, and sliding-scale arrangements are also available. Contact our office to confirm your coverage before your first appointment.
Common questions
Does couples counseling mean our relationship is in serious trouble?
No. Couples come to therapy at every stage and for every reason. Some are in crisis. Some are simply at a point where they want more than what they've been able to build on their own.
What if one of us doesn't want to come?
It's worth reaching out anyway. In some cases, starting with one partner can be a useful first step. Our intake coordinator can help you think through the options based on your specific situation.
