Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy

If you've tried medication, therapy, or both, and you're still not where you hoped to be, you're not out of options. Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy is a newer clinical approach that some people find helpful when other treatments haven't provided lasting relief.

This is not a quick fix, and it's not right for everyone. It is a carefully structured therapeutic process that combines the temporary effects of ketamine with focused psychotherapy, designed to help some clients access deeper insights and create more meaningful shifts in their mental health.

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy

What KAP is and how it works

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy combines two distinct components: the medicine and the therapy.

The medical side is handled by our partner, Journey Clinical. Their team manages eligibility screening, prescribing, dosing, and all medical oversight. You do not need to find a separate provider or coordinate that process on your own.

The therapy side is guided by our clinicians at Embrace Psychotherapy & Education. We support you before, during, and after each ketamine session — helping you prepare for the experience, process what comes up during it, and integrate those insights into meaningful, lasting change. That integration work is where the real therapeutic value lives.

Who this may be a good fit for

KAP is typically considered when other treatments have not provided sufficient relief. It may be worth exploring if you are experiencing:

  • Treatment-resistant depression that has not responded adequately to medication or therapy

  • Anxiety that remains significantly limiting despite ongoing treatment

  • PTSD or trauma responses that have been difficult to reach through talk therapy alone

This is not a first-line treatment, and it is not appropriate for everyone. The eligibility process with Journey Clinical will determine whether KAP is clinically suitable for your situation.

What to expect

The process begins with a medical consultation through Journey Clinical to assess your eligibility and discuss what to expect. Once cleared, your Embrace clinician will meet with you to prepare for the experience and establish a therapeutic foundation.

Ketamine sessions themselves take place in a controlled setting. Afterward, integration sessions with your clinician help you make sense of what arose and connect it to your broader therapeutic goals. The number of sessions varies depending on your needs and response to treatment.

A note on expectations

KAP may help some clients access emotional material that has been difficult to reach, reduce the intensity of symptoms, or create an opening for deeper therapeutic work. It does not work the same way for everyone, and outcomes vary. We will not promise results we cannot guarantee.

What we can promise is that the process will be thoughtful, medically supervised, and clinically grounded from beginning to end.

Fees and insurance

KAP involves both medical and therapeutic components, each billed separately. The therapy and integration sessions at Embrace follow our standard fee structure. Journey Clinical handles billing for the medical component. Contact our office to discuss costs and coverage before beginning the process.

Common questions

Is ketamine legal and safe?

Yes. Ketamine is an FDA-approved medication used in clinical settings. When prescribed and administered through a supervised medical program like Journey Clinical, it is a legal and monitored treatment.

Do I need a referral to start?

No. You can reach out to us directly, and we will coordinate with Journey Clinical from there. Their team will conduct their own eligibility screening as part of the process.
