LGBTQIA+ Affirmative Therapy
Finding a therapist who truly gets it — not just one who says they're affirming — makes a real difference. Minority stress, identity development, relationship dynamics, family acceptance, and the weight of living in a world that doesn't always make space for you are not background details. They are often the center of what brings someone to therapy, and they deserve to be treated that way.
Embrace Psychotherapy & Education is an LGBTQIA+ affirming practice. That means your identity is not something we work around. It is something we understand, respect, and center in the work.

Who we work with
We provide affirming therapy for:
-
LGBTQIA+ individuals navigating identity, relationships, mental health, or life transitions
-
Couples seeking therapy that doesn't rely on assumptions about gender, sexuality, or relationship structure
-
Families supporting a loved one who has come out or is exploring their identity
-
Individuals and couples exploring family planning, including through assisted reproductive technologies
For individuals
You may be working through questions about identity, managing the compounding stress of discrimination or invisibility, processing relationships with family or community, or dealing with anxiety, depression, or trauma that intersects with your experience as an LGBTQIA+ person.
Therapy here is a space where you don't have to explain yourself before the work begins. We bring experience with gender identity, sexual orientation, identity development, minority stress, and the ways each of those can shape mental health and daily life.
For couples
LGBTQIA+ couples deserve therapy that meets them where they are, without assumptions about what their relationship should look like.
We help couples improve communication, rebuild trust, deepen intimacy, and understand the patterns contributing to conflict or disconnection. Whether you're navigating a specific challenge or simply want to strengthen your relationship, we work from a framework that honors your experience rather than defaulting to heteronormative models.
For families
When a loved one comes out or begins exploring their identity, families often need their own space to process. That might mean working through longstanding beliefs, learning how to communicate with greater openness, or simply figuring out how to show up in a way that strengthens rather than strains the relationship.
We help families move toward greater understanding and connection, at a pace that respects where each person is starting from.
Family planning
We support individuals and couples exploring family planning, including those considering assisted reproductive technologies, adoption, surrogacy, or other paths to parenthood.
Therapy can provide space to consider your options, emotional readiness, relationship concerns, and long-term goals throughout that process. Every family looks different, and our support reflects that.
What to expect
The first session is a conversation. Your clinician will ask about what's bringing you in, what you're hoping therapy will help you with, and anything relevant about your life, relationships, or identity that you'd like them to understand from the start. You set the pace and the scope.
Most new clients are seen within the same week of reaching out.
Fees and insurance
We accept several major insurance plans. Private pay, out-of-network superbills, EAP programs, and sliding-scale arrangements are also available. Contact our office to confirm your coverage before your first appointment.
Common questions
How do I know the therapist is actually affirming and not just saying so?
It's a fair question. Our clinicians have direct experience working with LGBTQIA+ individuals, couples, and families — not just a line on a website. During your first session, you'll get a sense of how your clinician engages with your identity. If the fit doesn't feel right, we'll help you find someone it does.
Do I have to focus on my identity in therapy?
No. Your identity informs how we approach the work, but therapy focuses on whatever is most important to you. That might be anxiety, relationships, a life transition, or something else entirely. You decide what we work on.
